IDC conducted the study, “Perspective of IT monitoring in LATAM organizations for the data-driven decision making”, sponsored by Zabbix, on the adoption of open source technology and IT monitoring platforms in organizations. For this study, a survey was conducted among decision makers from 360 companies with more than 100 employees in Latin America, covering countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.
The foundation of IT monitoring is data analysis, which allows you to create a complete picture of the constantly changing infrastructure, spanning networks, servers, virtual environments, switches, computers, mobile devices and other components. This dynamic approach allows us to identify not only challenges and failures, but also opportunities for continuous improvement, in line with the constant evolution of the technological environment.
The sectors analyzed in the study were Finance, Commerce, Government and Telecommunications. Regarding technology adoption, IT investments in Latin America appear to be resilient to economic conditions.
Currently, 54.9% of organizations allocate up to 15% of their revenue in IT investments , when historically the percentages did not exceed the 10% mark.
This scenario signals a significant increase in the availability of technological services and resources, boosting operations in the context of digital businesses.
In addition, 51% of organizations have more than 51% of their IT infrastructure covered by a monitoring system, reflecting a growing awareness of the importance of maintaining the integrity and reliability of enterprise systems .
However, 41% ofexecutives have coverage between 16% and 50%of applications and business processes, with risks of underutilization of resources, operational failures or inadequate security.
The same goes for processes and transactions.: 49% protegen solo entre 16% y 50% de los procesos asociados a los clientes y/o usuarios.
This limitation compromises the ability to improve the quality of the services offered, identify opportunities for improvement and anticipate potential problems that may negatively impact customer experience and satisfaction.
The preference for using open source tools in IT monitoring can be attributed to their nature open, comprehensive and flexible, which is often more affordable in terms of costs, as well as the ease of integration with other systems or platforms and even with emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and robotic process automation (RPA).
The open source is used alone or in combination with other licensing platforms, with an agnostic approach to Integrate with other IT monitoring solutions and optimize costs.
Regarding the preference for commercial license models or platforms open source in IT monitoring, The IDC study found that:
61% of organizations in the countries surveyed use open source tools (o strong>pen source ), either alone or together with licensing models.
In the case of Mexico, a composite model also prevails (38.9%), which combines open source solutions with commercial licenses, seeking flexibility, customization and cost optimization. With 22.4% who prefer a commercial licensing model and 19.6% who prefer only open source tools.
In a context in which investments in Information Technology (IT) are growing, it is crucial to have accurate and agile data. This contributes to the effective protection of digital services and assets, prioritizing what is most beneficial for users and customers.
Open source will continue to be used, alone or in combination with other licensing platforms, with an agnostic approach to integrate with other IT monitoring solutions and optimize costs. When establishing processes and looking for suitable tools, leaders will invest in those that are increasingly intuitive, flexible and that allow easy integration with other systems and/or tools.
